4 signs you have a hidden water leak

Most hidden leaks announce themselves quietly, long before you see water. The four clearest signs are a water bill that jumps with no change in your habits, the sound of running or trickling water when every fixture is off, a warm or damp spot on the floor, and unexplained mildew or a musty smell. A running toilet or a dripping outdoor spigot can hide a surprising amount of waste too. How trenchless sewer repair actually works

Trenchless repair fixes a sewer line with little or no digging, which is why it saves your lawn, driveway, and landscaping. Cured-in-place pipe lining hardens a resin sleeve into a new pipe inside the old one, much like an angioplasty. Pipe bursting pulls a brand new pipe through the old one while a bursting head breaks the failed pipe apart. Both start with a camera inspection so the plumber knows the exact condition and location first. Are tankless water heaters worth it?

It depends on how long you plan to stay and how much hot water you use. A standard tank water heater lasts about 8 to 12 years. A tankless, or on-demand, unit can run 20 to 25 years and cut water-heating energy use by roughly 30 to 60 percent because it only heats water when you turn on the tap. The tradeoff is a higher upfront cost and sometimes gas-line or venting upgrades. Should you repipe your home?

Repipe when the pipes themselves are failing rather than a single spot: chronic low pressure, water that runs red or rusty, repeated pinhole leaks, or corroding galvanized steel. If you patch a new leak every few months, you usually spend more over time than a repipe would cost.
